Check it Out!
Here's a site run by an old friend of mine. He has been putting up a lot of rare and obscure punk and metal recordings from the eighties. If you're into that kind of thing, navigate his way and spend some time reading and listening.
Oh, a couple of things I want to add to my "best of 2007" list:
Stone Breath "Songs of Moonlight and Rain (expanded edition)" and "The Holly Crown" 3"cd The first is a reissue of their first album - when it first came out, I bought it based on the cover drawing. At the time, I found the music reminiscent of Current 93 forced through a filter of old-timey Americana. It is no wonder that there is now possibly a collaboration in the works between TiMOTHy of Stone Breath and David of Current 93. Stone Breath actually ceased to exist for awhile, and TiMOTHy was busy with a new project called Crow Tongue, but "The Holly Crown", a two-song Christmas single, signals their return. The cd itself comes packaged in a snowflake ornament. A more elaborate, and more expensive, bellsnickle version exists as well. Check out Somedarkholler.com for more, including links.
Also, I was thrilled that the good folks over at Boss Tuneage saw fit to reissue the entire Joyce Mckinney Experience discography on a double cd called "Love Songs for Kirk". The cd features all of their records (a full-length and a couple of eps), plus demos recorded both before and after the stuff I had already heard. Also included are a John Peel (R.I.P.) session and comp. tracks. The music? Eighties, melodic, female-fronted punk. Similar in a way to Dan, Sofa Head, and the like. Another criminally obscure band gets a second chance, not that they care though, since the band has been broken up since the eighties.
